The Yellow Daisy-- Thomas Z

I can still hear the thud of trees hitting the ground,

Smell the fumes of those tree cutting machines

For months, there were no signs of life in this barren place

But now, a single yellow daisy

A splash of color in a colorless land

The sun shines upon the daisy like a spotlight

The flower captures my attention like a ray of light in a dark room

I still remember the sweet fragrance of flowers before,

So I bend down

I reach for the daisy, longing to feel happiness again

My fingers brush upon cold, gray rock

A wave of sadness crashes over me

Daisies are gone

Forever
