The world building was honestly astonishing with how detailed and intricate each and every detail was. The characters and their backstories were gorgeous works of art and the plot was like falling down a rabbit hole into a whole new universe. The writing and dialogue gave the reader a perfect picture of what was happening on the page and the little dots of humor throughout the book make it my favorite book of all time. I would recomend The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was fairly similar, but instead of stealing and causing crime, a group of teenagers is actually working with the FBI to stop crime from continuing. also one of my top fives.

By: Madeline Miller
It is an amazing and creative retelling of the Greek myth of Achilles. [Madeline Miller] put so much effort into character development and the romance between Achilles and Patroclus. I especially liked how she wrote both of their death scenes, and the way Patroclus was still able to tell the story while being dead, (and the reason behind it.) It's a wonderful story full of heartbreak and joy, and yes, I did start sobbing at the end. I would highly recommend it if you like Greek mythology (especially), but I'm sure others who don't have an unhealthy obsession with the Greeks would like it too, purely on the writing style, story, and what a great job Madeline Miller did.
Recommended: Ithaca, Circe, (and basically any Claire North book, she is SUCH an amazing and addicting author!)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

By Jason Reynolds
I like how the book shows the struggles of some kids which really opens up the world for privileged kids. It really does a good job of showing the different types of "worlds" that some kids live in. It also shows that sometimes the truth can be hard, but will always eventually come out. I reccomend any books in the Track series by Jason Reynolds

I like the thrill and excitement readers like me get when reading about the journey and fairy tale of Sophie & Agatha, two girls born in a humble village called Galvadon, where they read about fairy tales, and get kidnapped from their homes, and arrive at the place that the heroes like Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, or villains like the wolf, the giant, or Rumpelstiltskin, learn and get trained to become the heroes and villains that slay their nemesis' in their fairy tail, or become ones who are part of another person's fairy tale. I recommend Eragon, Percy Jackson, the Keeper of the Lost Cities, and Harry Potter.

By Alan Gratz
I really like Alan Gratz's books because they give you a great feeling of what happened during the event he portraits like the two World Wars or the stories of refugees. I would recommend Refugee and Prisoner B-3087
By Stuart Gibbs,
It's a really cool book about a blackout scenario in the world, and how it could realistically look like. Again, its made by Stuart Gibbs, so it's automatically going to become your favorite book series. Just don't read this if you haven't read in order, as I made that mistake, and accidentally spoiled some of the characters for myself. I would recommend The Funjungle series made by Stuart Gibbs as well.
By Ann Brashares

By Suzanne Collins
Fights to death and twists and turns with secrets around every corner. If that sounds like a great story then you should read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is by Suzanne Collins. This book is a dystopian action book. This book is the fourth book in the series and is a prequel covering the life of the seemingly evil president of Panem. The Hunger Games is about a world where there has been an apocalyptic event and the people of earth all reallocate to one place. The people rebel, they hate the government and start a war. In the end they lost the war and the government came up with a way to remind the rebels and citizens of the war, the Hunger Games. Where twenty four teenagers from across the rebuilt nation are forced to fight to the death with only one victor. This book explores the president of Panem's dark past and how he became so evil.
This story is told by the President, or at the time Coriolanus Snow, as he tries to figure out which side he stands for, the rebels or the government. This story takes place in a world so changed and destroyed by time that it is unfathomable. Coriolanus’ struggles seem so real that it makes you feel as if you're in his shoes.
I loved how this book was written. At just the right times when you least expected it something crazy would happen. The book was very fast paced but in the perfect way so it wasn’t slow and boring but wasn’t so that you would be confused. For example, you would think that Coriolanus got away with something and then all of a sudden he would be caught, and then he would find a way out. Then as he would be about to escape again he would fail and have to claw his way up. Eventually, he would succeed, but would he be happy if he examined how he got there and who he had become? Was it really a happy ending? I love how in this book it is up to the reader to decide.
In this book, the main characters have such varying opinions that it really adds to the story. It shows that people can look one way or act one way but deep inside have totally different loyalties and opinions. Coriolanus has to decide which of his friends to trust and which to ignore with so many buts and ifs that it is almost impossible to say who of his friends were the good and true ones.
Overall, this book was AMAZING. If you have read the other books in the Hunger Games series and are considering reading this then stop considering and just read it. If you love something that's a little bit dark and makes you think with an added twist of some romance and drama then this book is definitely for you! 10 out of 5 stars.
I recommend the whole Hunger Games seres and The Other Side of The Island.
By Lisa Greenwald

By Suzanne Collins
I like The Hunger Games because its a compelling story about a girl named Katniss who's sister, against the odds, was entered into the deadly Hunger Games. But because Katniss cares for her sister so much she enters herself into The Hunger Games. She trains with her partner Peeta for a fight to the death. I recommend Wings of fire or Warrior cats.
By Ruta Sepetys
I Must Betray You is a historical fiction novel that is set in 1989 communist Romania. 17-year old Christian and his family have to navigate their tough, tense, and terrifying life under the dictator Ceaușescu, where people endure constant surveillance. People have to spy on each other, and Christian is tasked with spying on the American embassy's family. Throughout the book, Christian's life is altered when the communist revolution occurs, and his family helps end the regime. If you are interested in Historical Fiction novels about regimes that oppress their people, I would recommend other books by Ruta Sepetys, like Fountains of Silence, which is about Franco's regime.
By Jerry Craft
Have you ever been on a school trip and thought this field trip is going to be horrible, but it actually ended up great? That’s exactly the vibe in School Trip by Jerry Craft. This book is realistic fiction, and honestly, I thought it was interesting and very relatable. It’s about a group of middle school kids who get to go to Paris, but things definitely don’t go perfectly. I really liked this book because it felt just like real life, and it was never boring.
So, the story follows Jordan and his friends on their big Paris trip with the class. At first, everyone’s sort of split, with some thinking it’ll be the best trip ever and some thinking it's not going to be up to its hype because of 1 specific person, but then there’s a lot of drama between friends, a surprising change in a person, and some awkward moments.
The main thing is about figuring out friendships, trying to fit in, and just dealing with all the stuff that happens when you’re with a huge different variety of people. The Paris setting makes everything seem even more ludicrous and more exciting as the story takes you through all the ups and downs. It made me want to be there to experience the moments of glee and sorrow.
The characters are probably my favorite part. Jordan is the easiest to relate to. He worries about what everyone thinks and sometimes feels left out, which happens sometimes to me, too. The friends in the story fight and mess up sometimes, but honestly, that’s exactly what a real life of any person would look like. I liked watching Jordan get more confident and figure things out by the end. No one in this book is perfect, and that made it feel way more real, made me feel how they were feeling, and not fake at all.
The big ideas are friendship, growing up, and trying stuff that’s outside your comfort zone. The book shows that real friends are honest, even if it’s awkward, and that going through tough or embarrassing things is kind of how you grow up. Jerry Craft’s writing is actually really funny and easy to read. The way everyone talks sounds just like real people, not stiff like in some books. Some parts made me laugh out loud, but also a few that made me think.
Overall, I’d recommend School Trip to other kids around 10-12, especially if you like stories about real life, friendship, and some laughs. I’d give it 4.5 out of 5 stars because it was fun, it made me laugh, and I could actually see myself and my friends in it. The only thing that was bad about it was the fact that there were so many characters everywhere, and instead of focusing on the main protagonist, Jordan, they made the story seem choppy and strange all over the place. I recommend New School.
