Once upon a time, inside a burrow somewhere In Antarctica, there lived a 10-year-old ant named Bob E. Dob. He always dreamt of flying, but he knew that would never happen. He lived with his mom, the queen, and his 93,061,041,021 brothers and sisters. They lived in the top burrow, a luxury in their city, because it’s closer to the surface;so if a disaster happened, they could escape easily. Plus, his house had marble floors, real gold, and an accent wall in every room. His brothers and sisters who are old enough to work could easily get up to the surface to search for food. Five years ago, he could without question think of infinite things to do, but now he would get bored every day. I interviewed him, and he said this, “It’s hard just making it through the day.” One day he endured enough, and decided to somehow fly, since he would always dream to. He spoiled himself too much with all the luxury items he got from his mom being the queen. Plus, he barely talked to her because they would always fight. When he was younger and told her he wanted to fly, she laughed at him, and made fun of him for his dream. Only his best friend, Tim D. Pim understood him. The only thing was that he’d play with them for a day, and then get bored again!
He planned to make wings, so he built a secret workshop in his room that he could only get to through his closet. He spent days sneaking out for materials, tweaking and fine tuning, and letting Tim D. Pim in for help. They made the actual wing part out of plastic, and the bony part out of pipes. They made a strap and put them on. When they finished, they spray painted the plastic blue, and the pipe part gold. After that, they tested them in the Trampoline Park inside of the Fun Zone Full Of Ideas We Stole From Humans. By the way, their burrow is a whole city with a restaurant, mall, and houses galore! Here’s a map so you don’t get lost.
Bob thought it worked, so the next day he took it to the tallest cave in the burrow. His friend wished him good luck, and he was off to the Hospital. It had a name: The Hospit-ant. He got ready, took a deep breath, and woooooooooossssssshhhhhhhh. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .SLAM! He hit the ground flat on his face at insane speeds because his wings were too heavy. A family who witnessed the accident came over to help him. He was rushed to the hospital, but in the end, he passed away. The town held a funeral, but his mom didn’t even come because she never wanted him to fly, and now he was dead because of it.
After the funeral, two gravediggers dug his grave, and then placed his coffin inside. When they finished filling the hole, they walked away, but as soon as the coast was clear, he opened the coffin to a bunch of dirt, and since ants don’t bury people six feet under, they bury them one, he could easily push off the dirt, carefully climb out of his coffin, close the coffin, and fill the hole back up.
Turns out, he faked it the whole time! This was also a smart plan because if anyone saw him try to escape, they would think they saw a ghost. After he successfully escaped, he was even more determined to fly. Usually, someone would back down in the situation he was in, but nope, he tried even harder. What he really wanted to do was escape to the surface, because he was too young to be on the surface.
Only worker ants were allowed up there. When he recovered, he immediately escaped from the hospital and hid in the restaurant. On the way, he grabbed his backpack, which had his wings. He knew he couldn’t be there for long though, so he decided to escape out of the secret exit that he was taught never to use. After searching for what felt like hours, he finally found it in the restaurant. Bob crawled inside, and started his long journey through the winding tunnel. His feet crunched on the dirt, and he could hear his own heartbeat. It was as quiet as a classroom doing individual work.
The tunnel was mine style, with lights every few steps, and wooden supports holding the dirt. Everything was going fine, until he set off an alarm from a tripwire, and heard the stomping of guards. He started running as fast as he could, and when the footsteps stopped, he had to take a break. He started eating some food he got from the restaurant, and was on his way. Finally, after two hours of walking, he reached the surface. By now it was nighttime, the perfect time to escape. He looked around at the glorious sight; water and ice. It’s Antarctica, remember? It’s definitely not glorious to us humans. He almost sat down to take another break, but then remembered what he was there for. Bob E. Dob found a tree, (A plant to us humans), and started climbing. He was enjoying the view when he heard the shouts of guards! “Oh shoot” he said, and prepared his wings, which were in his backpack. Right before the guards reached the top, he flew away into the night.
TWENTY YEARS LATER
Bob E. Dob flew all the way to a city in the US called Antopia, a city that’s on the surface, and after years of training, he became a professional skydiver!
