3:57 am
I couldn’t sleep, I just couldn’t. Pops was snoring as loud as a bulldozer in the room next to me and Selina had confiscated the blanket and the pillows. I force myself to see sheep gliding across my eyes but that doesn’t work on me. It never works on me, why would I bother? I sit up, the bed creaking as I do. Looking out the window from my spot was the huge maple tree blocking my view.
In defeat I take a look at the guitar shaped clock next to me “Gosh darn it.” I whisper. “ I have a guitar recital first thing in the morning and I can’t even seem to fall asleep.”
I slam my head onto my plush pillow causing the whole bed to jump. Selina whimpers and I freeze in place. I can’t wake her up. If I do, the whole house will echo with whines and screams. I try to knock myself out a couple of times, but all I’m getting out of that is a red shaped hand mark on my forehead. At this point, sleep is impossible. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to make my eyes close and head to jump into a different world. Is it that hard? Maybe I just need a drink of water. Yes, that's it. I slowly creep out of bed and start to crawl down the stairs. Suddenly, the sound of pop’s snoring is gone and what fills the air instead is a quiet humming. A lump forms in my throat and sweat trickles down my face.
“ P-p-pops?” I barely whisper.
The humming abruptly stops and the sound of footsteps make their way towards me. I tell myself to move but I just can’t, it feels like I’m stuck in tar. The sounds of footsteps get closer and now a raspy wheezing is audible.
“Cmon, cmon, get out of this mess.” I mumble. Suddenly the footsteps stop and all I can feel is warm air along my neck, coming in puffs.
“ I found you.” a voice whispers in my ear, a sharp slicing sensation and everything goes dark.
